E-resources FAQ

Can I read or listen offline? Yes. Books downloaded to Ellibs and Libby apps can be read/listened also offline. If Ellibs does not automatically download audiobooks, click the download button under the book cover. E-books are automatically downloaded when opened for the first time. Libby has settings where you can choose automatic or manual download.

Can I use the services abroad? You can borrow e-books wherever you have internet connection. You must first obtain a PIKI library card from your library.

Can I use an e-reader? E-books can be read on most e-readers. The reader must support EPUB and PDF files as well as Adobe DRM. Kindle is not supported because of Amazon's own file formats and copyright protections.

Can I renew my loans? OverDrive allows renewals maximum three days before due dates if the item has no reservations. Ellibs does not support renewals, but if there are no reservation, you can return the loan and borrow it again straigth away.

Why is it not possible to have multiple concurrent readers? E-books are licenced and every licence cost separately. Usually the licences have fixed terms eg for one year. Our budget does not cover limitless licences for everybody.

My library card was replaced. What happens to my loans and reservations? If your card is replaced, e-resource loans and reservations are not transferred. You are not able to access your former loans and reservations.

However, Ellibs and OverDrive allow the transferral if both the old and new card numbers are known. Contact your library for transferral.

Why do I see collections from another library? It is likely due to Ellibs rerouting the request. The address for the PIKI collection is ellibslibrary.com/piki which converts to ellibslibrary.com/collection when the site loads. This address may sometimes bring up some other collection because it is used for all Ellibs collections. If you are not able to change the collection to PIKI, try using the direct address.

What to do if the app does not work properly? Try these steps: Log out and then log in again. Restart your device. Delete the app and reinstall it.

What to do if the web site does not work properly? Try another browser. Delete the browsing history and cookies and try again. Remember to allow cookies. We recommend Chrome, Firefox, and Safari for browsing.

What to do when e-book or e-audiobook does not work properly?

If there are no reservations, return the loan and reborrow it. If you have downloaded the item, try and delete it and redownload. If you are using browser, try another browser or deleting the browsing history. If using a mobile app, try re-log-in. If this does not work, delete the app and reinstall it.

Sometimes the e-book/e-audiobook file may be defective. If you have problems with Ellibs, you can contact them directly at support@ellibs.com

There are breaks in the e-audiobook. What to do?

If you are using a mobile device, we recommend using mobile app for said service and downloading the file to your device. This eliminates problems caused by bad connections.

If the problems arise while using a browser, try using another browser. There may be problems while changing tracks, if the device locks itself automatically.

Too strict power saving settings have been observed to cause problems in Android devices while using the Ellibs app.

Why do I no longer have access to PressReader publications? Check that you are signed in to the application. Make sure that you are connected to the HotSpot ie the coffee cup icon is green. If the icon is not green, click it and reconnect to the library HotSpot. If you do not see the coffee cup in the app, check settings for HotSpot.
